Regular Visitors...

Every night when I come home from work I see our regular visitors. This little band of deer comes down from the hills above our house to look for something good to eat, then they move on. they are very daring, it's really hard to get them to move out of the way sometimes. Usually there are just does, yearlings and fawns, but today a 4 point buck was in the group. He was a little bit skittish, so I didn't get a picture, but here are some of the girls.

Organized chaos...

Christmas was great this year at the Haynie's! We had so much fun with the little girls. They loved their kitchens, and Great-Grandma and Papa Haynie's baby dolls were a hit. We had just wht the title of this post says,"Organized Chaos". Watch the slide show above this and you'll see what I mean. I hope you all had a wonderful day, filled with great memories for years to come.

More Snow...

For the past few years, our Stake President has been asking us to pray for moisture for the Valley. Many of the members of the Church here are farmers and ranchers and make their living from the land. They need water! So we have been praying for moisture on a regular basis. Our prayers have been heard in a big way. It has snowed almost every day for the past 10 days, with at least 2 more storms to come in the next week. I took this picture on my deck of my yardstick stuck in the snow-10 inches- and counting. Terry says that I need to go out into the middle of the yard to get a more accurate reading. He thinks 18 inches are out there. I will try to wander out there, but I don't know if I can leave my nice, cozy house to do it.

The Christmas Nail

This morning in seminary, I talked about the gifts that Christ gives us and the gifts that we give to Christ. I gave each of my students a copy of a poem that is a great reminder of what it the true meaning of Christmas. Here it is:

The Christmas Nail
It's Christmas time at our house
and we are putting up the tree.
I wish I could find one simple way
to remember Christ's gift to me.

Some little sign or symbol
to show friends stopping by,
the babe was born one day
but he really came to die.

Some symbol of his nail-pierced hands
the blood he shed for you and me...
What if I hung a simple nail
upon my Christmas tree?

A crimson bow tied'round the nail
as his blood flowed down so free
to save each person from their sin
and redeem us for all eternity.

I know it was His love for us
that held Him to that tree
but when I see this simple nail
I know he died for me.

Let It Snow!!!

A phone call early in the morning at our house is usually not a good thing. But today's early morning call was "Snow Day"!!! We have been in a winter storm warning area for the last 12 hours and boy-did we get snow! One of the things that I have learned to appreciate is the snow. When we get these amounts in a short period, the store gets busy, the farmers are happy because it means water for next year, and the school kids are happy because there is no school. Hope you like the pictures that go along with this post, we're going to have a white Christmas in Colorado.

Give Thanks...

We survived Thanksgiving! Yeah!! I really didn't know how everybody would behave, but all I asked was two hours of peace and calm and everybody getting along. The turkey was great, my stuffing was a mess-I wish I could make it like Grandma Frantz did-and everybody left after two hours. Devin and Angela came over on Friday to share turkey enchiladas with us. Devin spent the holiday with a convict fire crew in Ft. Collins and got the Paradise Fire under control. It wasn't the same without Blake, he spent the holiday with the Hansen's in Chicago. He finally got a job, which takes alot of worry off of my shoulders. I know I shouldn't worry, but I do. That's being a mom for you-the worry never stops!

A Little Scare...

I have not been feeling well for awhile. The health fair people told me in March to watch my blood pressure because it was borderline (whatever that means). I went to the nurse practioner last week for a routine check-up and all that girl stuff you have to have. My pressure was a little high and she asked me to come in on Monday for a re-check. So I toddle on over to the clinic and have my pressure taken-200 over 107. The nurses asked what was wrong because I was about ready to explode! So now I have become my Mother. I have to take medication to keep it down around normal. Today I checked - 124 over 88, still high, but not death-row. I'm pretty glad they caught it yesterday, I think that someone is watching over me just a little.

Too Much Drama...

Why does there always have to be so much drama in the world? I invited everybody who will be in the Valley to eat Thanksgiving dinner at our house. Terry's parents said no because we don't want to be with certain other people. Sam said no because he would be too uncomfortable around certain people. Devin and Angela said ok, we'll come. Ryan and Tammy-who knows? For 30 years I have gone to Terry's parents and put up with all the garbage that goes along with them, but they can't behave for 2 hours. Well, we're eating at 1:00 pm on Thursday and I don't care who's there, we're eating!!!

Be My Little Baby BumbleBee

Kayleigh came over on Halloween night to show us her costume. She was dressed as a Bee, cute as a bug. I remember Janis singing a song when we were kids about Bumblebees. Actually I think it was a tap dance we learned in our attempt to dance. She was cute and helped hand out the candy with Papa.

Now, if she'd just get rid of the binkie!!

The Vote Is In

As I looked at my blog layout, I couldn't help but "Give Thanks" that we live in a country that allows us a voice in how our country is run. Terry and I have been following this election very carefully, and we recognize that this is a turning point for all of us. I feel very priviledged to have taken part in this wonderful process. Alot of people we know have made comments about being afraid for the future and what might happen if either side was elected. I am a firm believer in the words found in DC 38:30 "...but if ye are prepared ye shall not fear." If we use each day to its fullest and follow the words of our Prophet, we don't need to be afraid.

You are a fun and caring person. You always know the right thing to say, probably because you can always tell what is going to happen next. Why I Love Halloween!

I love Halloween for the following reasons:

1-Cool decorations

2- Fun Parties

3- Great Candy!

I was sitting around the other day and figured out that those candy pumpkins made by Brach's are the absolute best candy of all time. Terry and I have gone through about 10 bags of those things since the middle of September. I always get freaky when I don't see them on the shelf at the store. The other day I was in Walgreen's and found them on sale for $1.00 a bag. Sweet!!

My least favorite Halloween candy is SweetTarts. I used to get mad when I was a kid when people would give apples or popcorn balls. Now people who give toothbrushes and stickers are lame. This year we are passing out Hot Tamales, Mike&Ikes, Laffy Taffy and Runts. Hope you come to see me!!

Sarah in a Bag...

We baby-sat Sarah last weekend while Devin and Angela went to Denver to the Bronco game. What a sweet girl! She is into everything and everything facsinates her. I took this picture after she had thrown everything out of her diaper bag and proceeded to sit in it. Terry laughed and laughed at her, but she loved that bag.

My Girls

One of the things that I am involved with is Activity Day for the Primary girls of our Branch. When I was first called to this position, I was overwhelmed and a little bit scared of Girls! Never having a daughter of my own, I thought that I would not be able to plan appropriate activities to help these girls grow in the Gospel. That has certainly changed. Planning a bi-monthly activity has been about as much fun as I had in Cub Scouts. (Those of you who know me, know that I had a blast in Cubs!).We've done a bunch of great things in the past few months-nature walks, mini-golf, Articles of Faith, and learning the Gospel Standards. Yesterday I planned a fun Halloween activity. We decorated t-shirts with Halloween decals and made "Puppy Chow", a quick and easy treat the girls can make for FHE or anything else. We also have our own blog called "Girl Power" that chronicles our activities. They love to look at themselves in our past activities and I've opened the blog so that they can post also. Thanks to those who post on the Yahoo activity day list, they have great ideas.

WOW!!

It's a good thing that we have friends. Our friend Mike took Terry up in his airplane this morning to see the sights along the Continental Divide. If you look closely, you can see patches of snow from last year. This could be the last weekend that these views could be available due to a winter storm warning. We are expecting up to 12 inches of snow this weekend. The fall colors are really beautiful around here this year. I don't know why some years seem to be brighter, more majestic or vibrant than others. I've always wanted to do a fall color tour of New England, but maybe I need to stay close to home. Could it be any better?

New Moves

I thought that I would be really cool and try something different for my blog. So I got on the Twilight website, downloaded the widget and promptly lost my JibJab. Well, back I go to JibJab and find one that really is us. We met at a social Dance class at BYU. And yes-Terry did dress like that. In fact, I think I just barely got rid of some of his old clothes! He had some moves in those days-still has some of them left-just a little bit slower!

I'll Be Ready...

OK... So I finally get it!!!

OK-I finally get it. All of you with your weird obsession with the Twilight series.(That means you-Tyanya and Angela!). I figured that if I wanted to see the movie, I should really read the books. So, in June I borrowed Susan's copies and began to read. I liked the first one-it just took me a really long time to read it. About a month ago, I started the second one, and now I am about half-way through #3. They are pretty good, although I still have times that my "dispension-of-belief" mode doesn't kick in. Vampires and Werewolves are not really my style, but the writing is good, and the character's relationships are pretty real. I guess that with everything that is going on in the world today, I just need a good ol-fashioned escape from reality!

It's in the Air

Last week we went to Creede for a Branch Party. I couldn't help but notice how beautiful the mountains are right now. It seems that Mother Nature skips us during spring and summer, but saves her best for fall. The aspen are always bright and remind me that we do live in a wonderful part of the country. Today I looked up behind the house and saw the first snow of the year on Bennett Peak. A new reminder that something else is in the air-Winter!!!

Bronco Time

Over the years, our family has enjoyed going to Denver to see the Broncos play. Terry has always been a die-hard fan. So much so, that he proposed to me when they lost in the super bowl in 1978. Jerry and Oma Jean had season tickets for many years and when they decided they didn't want them any more, we jumped at the chance to get them. Our seats used to be in the nose bleed section of Invesco, but last year we had a chance for a seat improvement. We were moved to the first level, sec. 100 row 14. We really enjoy going to the games. It is a great time for Terry to relax and get up close and personal. Yesterday's game was a real barn-burner. The Broncos won 39-38 over the San Deigo Chargers. the first home game is always special, because they have a fly-over from Fort Carson in Colorado Springs. This year it was a stealth bomber. The only sad thing about this year is that Devin, who was going to go with us, was called to work the clean-up of Hurricane Ike in Texas.

867-5309 Jenny

This past summer we had a very special houseguest. Jenny Kvarics came from Berlin, Germany to stay. She was a foreign exchange student at Del Norte High School in 2007. We loved having her live with us for the short time she was here. She brought a wonderful, vivacious spirit into our home and she bakes a mean cookie too. Jenny came this summer to visit and SHOP!!! That is one thing I never got to do with the boys, they never wanted to do that. She has one more year of High School left in Germany, and then she is planning to go to Hotel Management School. She speaks German, English, French, and tried Spanish while she was here. She can't seem to get enough of Mexican food, burritos are one of her favorites, and Dairy Queen Blizzards-OREO- were on the top of her to-do list while she was here. She's really a pretty good driver, it was nice to have a chauffeur.

We had a great time with you, Jennifer Jacqueline-we wish you the best and love you very much.

Farmer Terry

For many years we have been trying to grow a garden. If you have been to the San Luis Valley, you know how hard it is to get things to grow (except potatoes). For a long time we just gave up until this year. Terry talked me into getting some jalapeno pepper plants-just to try. Well, we have certanly been successful! There are about 2 dozen peppers on his plants and he says that they are really HOT!!! He is really proud of his work and counts his peppers every day. If you come to see us, you'll get to sample his delicious wares.

Add me to your list!!!

Anne says she won't add me to her list unless I post a picture. so here goes-Grandpa Terry and Kayleigh mowing the lawn. Kayleigh is very much like her daddy. Anything with an engine fascinates her and she wants to go for a ride. She is learning to ride her pink and purple trike, so I will try to remember to take a picture the next time she is on it!!
